Perhaps what they could do is have a species attribute, that works like the primary attribute, and just do away with the primaries. That way, it could be possible to change your main profession, as well as your secondary. It never did make sense why your character would be "born" a warrior, for instance, unable to learn how to use Soul Reaping, or Energy Storage. Or a Monk that just simply can't get a grip on inner Strength and deliver an armor penetrating blows.
heh heh heh... I said "penetrating blows"...

That'd be pretty cool. You choose your race, then your primary, then your secondary and later on can change your primary and/or secondary for some variety.
Right now if someone hates the way a profession looks, but likes their primary attribute and primary skills it's just the same situation as deciding on picking a race that they may not like the look of, just for any abilities they may have.

Variable primary and secondary could be interesting. I guess in that situation, armor skins would correspond to race and not primary anymore. But would they go the insignia route or reuse the armor system like factions O.o?

True, I didn't think about armors. Well, since we're talking GW2, it could be a different system entirely. I could see armor sets specific to the primary class, but have freely changeable insignia/rune-like stats, depending on your build, etc. So having to buy new armors for each of your primary class changes could be the aspect that discourages frequent primary switching.

I thought of this yesterday, dont know if it has been brought up yet though.
With Gail saying that some of this report is true, some false, and some misleading it lead me to think about what she ment by "misleading" My theory is that the "GW2" is the misleading part.
My theory is that the next installment will in fact be a "expansion" rather then a stand-alone chapter. Think of this as the Epilog to the Appadon story. Following that would be the first chaper of a new story. You COULD think of this as GW2, and maybe it was miscommunicated to this reporter as such, but in reality it would be Ch4, the first of a second trilogy. It would use the same database, same servers, and same client as the previous chapters.
If this is true, the GW story progression would seem to be Ch1-Ch2-Ch3-Epilog1-Ch4-Ch5-Ch6-Epilog2....ect, untill they end it all.
I also draw this theory based on other statements made by Gail and other devs about "future chapters". I would not think they would have put it this way if Nighfall was intended to be the last GW1 Chapter.
Agian, this all just theory, PC Gamer should give us more insight into what is going on.

This is a pretty good guess. It makes more sense than the GW2 theory and accounts for an easily misunderstood reference. Got my fingers crossed this is the deal.

I'm actually happy the next installment is an expansion pack. Now the energy they would have spent on newbie/ascention quests and teaching new players the ropes in the next game could be spent on leveled content.

I hope you're right... because I think that's a GREAT idea! It kind of reminds me of Magic the Gathering, where card sets come out in blocks of three sets and then they change it up... with other sets in between.
In any event... I'm really looking forward to PC Gamer and what it has in store!

I don't know if this was their intention, but it caused me to buy an entire subscription to PC Gamer!!! I still have to buy the May edition because my first issue will more than likely be the month after (supposedly they ship March 13th or March 15th to subscribers).

I think what is more likely misleading is that the new races it listed won't necessarily be playable races. GW2 will obviously have to come some day and I'd say it's entirely plausible that it'll come out after the next campaign rather than running the set of games for the next storyline on the current game engine.

I can see ANet doing a similar thing with Guild Wars as Blizzard did with its Starcraft and Warcraft RTS when it came to expansions. You could still play the old game after purchasing the expansion, but all of the gameplay mechanics introduced in the expansion did not carry BACKWARDS.
It would make sense for me to have a GW2 that created additional game mechanics that would not be compatible with GW1. Characters from GW1 could go to GW2, but not all GW2 characters could return to GW1.
All speculation of course, but this seems the most logical solution to me. Enjoy laughing at me Gaile and Alex

2 more negative aspects of 'The Inquirer.'
Gazing at the article again and talking with my friends ingame we've notied some things that may or not of been mentioned somewhere in these 800 + posts...
1) When they say multi-level dungeouns it's pretty..out there. I Mean Anet has NEVER used the word Dungeoun for ANYTHING. Also the article also says NEW multi-level dungeouns as in it's already been around long enough to be considered old.
2) The way they spell armor... Anet's always used the way they spell it as armor and not armour. this CLEARLY shows that it wasn't copied and pasted from a viable source from Anet.
Seems that the quite a bit is certaintly QUITE a bit...

It's entirely plausible that someone that has never played GW before could refer to a mission as a dungeon. And I believe a few people mentioned that the Inquirer is British which is why armor would be spelled that way. It way never claimed to be "copied and pasted" from a source from Anet, they said it was an article summarizing a verbal announcement at a conference.

Well took me a while to read most of that (5 hours). Its amazing how the same things keep poping up.
I can understand that people would like to take thier chars over to (the alleged) GW2. You grow attached to them. If the sequal ever came out and you could transfer your chars over you should be able to "remake" them. Change them to other races ect. (but staying with gender).

I just read through all 41 pages, I feel nauseous now. My eyes hurt.
Beforehand, I wasn't all that bothered about wanting to hear the latest info, but now I'm going crazy watching the seconds pass to the magazine article being available, and have 14 windows open on various threads and am constantly refreshing them all.
Dungeon could have been a quirky description by a a-net staff member that doesn't write the actual release info. Or a misinterpretation by the site.
As for the character transfer debate, I love starting fresh. Starting from the beginning, thinking about what's ahead, that's the best part for me.
Now for Heaven's sake, keep posting. I fear I might have to sleep, wake up at a decent time and do some work otherwise.

In my opinion according to the artical this what I thought Anet would end up doing in the first place. As for the transfer of characters I don't know I think it would be kinda cool to start over again in a new game with millions of new players. In a way its kind of like well now that everyone I know hates Guild Wars mabye theyll like... Guild Wars 2 a whole new game. As for lack of updates in between, I don't see this as a problem because Anet is working on tournament system for gvg HA updates Hero battles as well. As for the automated tournaments btw I think its something they want so they have more time to work on GW2?

It's complete bull. Why mess with Guild Wars when the fan base is expanding and the graphics are ALREADY years ahead of its time. It's crap. The screenshot looked like an disgarded pic from Borlis Pass.
